Dude. I'm Boring.

Yeah, sorry about the lack of posts. Nothing has been going on in my life. The Orlando job I referred to in this post? Probably not going to happen. They needed someone ASAP and it would have taken me 4-6 weeks to get down there. So, I'm back on the hunt. Good thing they didn't even offer it 'cause I got no help from my blog people. Ha...only kidding...I know it is my own fault I don't have readers. I blog sporadically and usually about nothing. Who wants to keep up with that?

I noticed recently that it is about time for my blog-o-versary? It will be one wonderful year on June 18!

In other news, Navy Boy gets back in about a week! I think he will have a week here in NC then have to go down to FL where flight school is, and then may or may not come back up here for a few months. Sigh. The military is so uncertain, it drives me crazy! I'll definitely have to blog about his return. I'm already a little nervous. What is the interaction going to be like? Awkward? Is he still going to like me as much as he did before he left?

No Foodie Friday today, people. I haven't been cooking that much because I'm trying to eat all healthy. And yes, I realize you can be creative and healthy, but I'm just not there yet. But I have been catching some DANK recipes on Food Network this week. If you didn't know, it was Grilling Week, so there has been burgers, ribs, and chicken galore! Hopefully I will try one of the recipes out next week and have a FF for you then.

Have a great weekend y'all!

Y'all, on the real, go check out Diana at Our.City.Lights. Her blog is GREAT and her giveaway is superb as well.

I promise it is well worth it. Anyone who is willing to go out and buy a Marc Jacobs bag for her readers is a great asset to the blog world!

Life and stuff.

I haven't been blogging much, because there is nothing going on in my life. I'm still working the same job that I have been working for 2 years. I am out looking for other opportunities, but as it turns out, the first thing companies get rid of in an economic downturn is the marketing activities. I just graduated with a marketing degree. Yay me.

Navy boy is still in Rhode Island, but comes home in like 2 weeks! He just told me that when he gets home, he will be here for a week then have to go down to Pensacola where he will eventually start flight school. Depending on if flight school is back-logged, he could come back home for a couple of months.

The thing that bothers me most about the military is how uncertain everything is. There is never really a long-term plan because they can just up and surprise you and say, "Hey you. It's time to go here." Oh well, I've decided to not get too emotionally invested unless he finds out he can definitely come home for a few months.

Hopefully, I will get a sweet job somewhere (preferably in another city/state) so I can start a new life and start moving forward. I feel like if I stay here, there are not that many opportunities, and I will just be doing the same thing over and over and hanging out with the same people over and over. I'm ready to meet new people and have new experiences. So I guess that is my goal.

Anyways, I wish I had more exciting things to write about, but I don't. I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend!

Blog Pimpin

Thanks to Muffy over at My Friends Are Sluts, I discovered Mich. She is great and her blogs read like a story. I can't wait to hear more about her new man, Tattoo. GO CHECK HER OUT! You could be rewarded for doing so!

UPDATE: I'm a terrible person and spelled Mich 'Mitch' the first time around. Forgive me, I'm not very observant! :)

APRIL FOOLS

I WAS JUST KIDDING! I'm not taking down my blog anytime soon, that I am aware of. Although my reader following has declined, from what I can tell, and I do have a job search to think of, I just can't give up this free place to go and write whatever I want, whenever I want. I depend on this blog like a best friend. I know I can always come here and express whatever is on my mind and not be judged for it. Well, probably judged for it, but silently haha.

And the few readers left? I appreciate the hell out of you and could never leave you.

I realize this wasn't the greatest April Fools' joke, but hey it's all I got for now. Happy April everyone, my birthday is in 11 days (on Easter)!

Good-Bye Jacks, Yurman and Bobbi Brown

I'm taking down my blog. Here are my reasons:

  1. Sharp decline in readers/commenters
  2. Job search coming up

That is it. So I've decided it will happen, I'm just not sure when. I still depend on it to pass the time/dump my thoughts on the world.

In and Out

Real quick, I wanted to write a post to say hi and I forgot to tell everyone that I'm doing the 20 SB Biggest Loser and I'm on the Green Team. Go Green! Woo! That works in two different ways. OK I'm officially out of my mind. I have two tests this afternoon that I am not at all prepared for. Shit. So I will be studying and trying to work for the next couple hours. I just thought I would mention the 20 SB thing because I recently started reading my team member's blogs and they are great. I really must explore different blogs more often.

If only I had more time. Anyways, I will be done with school work for the week today at 6, and then off to Oklahoma Sunday so I will have some free time to blog and comment and all of that jazz. Have a great day everyone!

Apologies.

I'm a freaking terrible blogger. I suck. I keep saying I'm going to get better, but I don't. There is nothing going on in my life that I think to blog about. Someone at my work just got laid off and I have no idea if I'm going to be next. I hope not because the extra drinking money each month really has enhanced my college experience.

Speaking of college, I have a test this week and 2 or 3 next week. I will be scarce once again. After next week will be spring break so I'll have time and topics to discuss. I'm going to visit family in Oklahoma and apparently they are scheming to set me up with a soccer player...we'll see how that goes. My family is known for putting people in awkward situations.

No other news on the boy front. Things are pretty boring around here. Hope all is well and I'm not loosing too many readers to my sucky-ness.

Games Are Fun

I ganked this cute idea from Tasha at Biology Gal to whom I owe a big one since my creative juices are lacking this week...

The Game:

Make a list of things you can see without getting up: My computer screen, obvi. The things on my desk: phone, stapler, boring stuff.

What were you like when you were five? I was (and always have been) silly around my family and friends but kind of stand-offish to those I don't know (due to my lack of confidence).

What are you wearing now? Black flats, black tights, a black skirt, a black shirt and a red jacket (it sounds goth, but it's really cute!)

What is one thing people don’t know about you that you would like to share? I wish I had more close friends.

What’s the last thing you read/are currently reading? A book for my history class on the Medieval times. BORING!

Do you nap a lot? No, there is too much to do (like watch TV).

Who was the last person you hugged? My dad.

What was the last thing you ate today? Cocoa Puffs!

What was the last thing you said aloud? "Bye." After hanging up with roomie. She had called to probe my mind about shortcuts on Macs - she just got one for Christmas.

What websites do you always visit when you go online? Email, my reader, people.com, school stuff.

What was the last thing you bought? A suitcase for my dad's birthday present.

What are you listening to right now? The normal sounds of the office...and cars passing outside.

What is the best piece of advice you have received recently? Interview advice from my mom.

If you could have any super power, what would it be? To be able to read people's minds...I realize it could offend me or get me in trouble but it would also help me be prepared and there is nothing I hate more than not being prepared.

What is your favorite weather, and why? Sunshine and not too hot so I can leave the windows and doors open.

What time do you usually get up? 7:30AM.

What is your most challenging goal right now? Motivating myself to workout.

Say something to the person who tagged you: Tasha is refreshing and a wonderful southern girl!

If you could have a house–totally paid for, fully furnished–anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be? Somewhere tropical and somewhat secluded...Fiji!?

Favorite vacation spot? Anywhere with a beach.

What is your favorite children’s book? The name escapes me right now, but it was about a monster doing something good. Vague, I know. My aunt used to read it to my sister and me each time we would visit.

Name one thing you just can’t resist no matter how bad it is for you: CHEESE!!

If you could meet anyone famous - dead or alive - who would it be? Britney Spears...haha I can't help it, I love the girl!

What is your favorite restaurant? Ruth's Chris

What do you do to motivate yourself? I don't really...it's usually just one of those days or it's not.

Step 1: respond and rework—answer the questions on your own blog, replace one question that you dislike with a question of your own invention, add one more question of your own.

Step 2: tag—eight other un-tagged people will be tagged (I'm not much for tagging so please feel free to do this at your own convenience!)

Blog Change

I just made some changes to my comment thingy after I have decided on what I do/don't like about commenting on other blogs.

-Instead of refreshing the page I chose a pop-up comment section. This is because often, I don't keep up with my reader and like to go back and read oldest to newest. So with a pop-up comment section I don't loose my place.
-No word verification anymore! I finally realized that is more for the blogs with high traffic, and I'm not quite there.

Puhleaseeeee let me know if these changes are bad. I'm not that tech-savvy so I'm not sure how pop-up blocker affects everyone, but if it will keep you from posting comments let me know because I honestly love them and wouldn't write if it wasn't for your opinions and advice. I hope these changes positively affect you experience here at Jacks, Yurman and Bobbi Brown!

Exam Week

I've been MIA for the past few days for a couple of reasons: 1. I've been sick 2. It is exam week. I have tons of posts to catch up on my reader and I've been so slack about posting on my own blog. My life has been so boring recently that even if it were a normal week, I doubt I would have anything of importance to write about anyways.

One small thing - Dru got into a car wreck this weekend. Apparently some guy crossed a few lanes of traffic and 't-boned' him. His truck is all messed up so he is having to drive his old Tahoe. No one in the car got hurt, which is good. Except, he is complaining a little about his elbow. There is still no set date for him to visit, which has me pulling out hairs. But we did talk about spending New Years together, which calmed me a little.

Anyways, I better get back to studying/working. Have a great weekend everyone, I'll be back in full-force next week!

Back to the Future

Yay. The election is over. I'm excited that our country will be going in a new direction and I look forward to the change. Mostly I am super pumped about not having to see political commercials anymore. They were getting out of hand towards the end there!

Anyways, I have come to realize I am not that great at coming up with post ideas. Lately I have basically been updating everyone with the Dru situation, but talking hardly any about other topics. I have a bad habit of thinking of things to write about, but then forgetting them and sitting in front of my computer with writers block. There are tons of opinions I have regarding somewhat controversial topics that I could discuss, but I don't want this to turn into a serious blog. I like the light, carefree feel of it right now. Oh what to write about...

I am great at talking about me. Plain and simple. SO I'll just write a brief* post about what is going on in my life (outside of Dru) until I can come up with something more entertaining. Well this may have a little to do with Dru, but I'll keep it to a minimum. As you may know, I will be graduating from college in May. I will have a degree in Business Management with a concentration in marketing. When I started school I thought this was the way to go; I was told, and believed, that a degree in business would give me the opportunity to work in pretty much any field.

Well, thank you, economy. This is no longer true, close to being true, or will be true in the immediate future.

So, I am presented with somewhat of a conundrum. To try to find a job...or go back to school? I have found a great advertising program at the University of Alabama. However, I would need to get 3 recommendation letters, take the GRE and submit an application by February 15. The recommendation letters and application aren't as daunting as the GRE. I have only recently begun my quest to take this particular test, and realize how much harder it is than I originally thought. I've concluded that it would be in my best interest to wait and apply next spring and start school in the fall of 2010.

I have searched online for jobs in the Birmingham area and have found some that look interesting. My thought process behind moving to Birmingham a year before I want to start school is threefold: 1. establish residency so I can get in-state tuition 2. save money to pay off the loan I will surely need 3. Dru. Now, I'm sure you see the obvious drawbacks here...what if Dru and I don't work out? What if I can't find a job when it actually comes time? What if I don't get in? Etc. Etc. Etc...

Hear me out...I want to be in the advertising industry. I am taking the only advertising-related class offered in my program and I enjoy it so much more than any other class I have taken. There are plenty of advertising programs elsewhere in the nation, mostly in the North, but as of right now, I don't really see myself moving North. I have nothing against it, I just have more friends and connections in the Midwest and southern states. The program at Alabama is great and seems to fit exactly what I am looking for, which most other schools don't.

Here comes the toughest part...how do I talk to Dru about it? He has mentioned me moving down to Alabama many times, but I haven't responded seriously, yet. Last weekend I lightly mentioned the advertising program at UA and he seemed genuinely excited.

On the other hand, if I were to try to find a job here in Raleigh, I probably wouldn't have much luck. I don't know how to approach my current bosses and ask if there is any chance of me growing within my current company when I graduate. I would love to stay on, if I don't go to Alabama, but I don't see any real potential for me here.

Oh the dilemmas of my life.

I'm really going to have to get on decorating my apartment though, because I think Dru is finally coming to visit in a few weeks. If you have any suggestions for places to find these items (reasonably priced) or have any creative ideas they will be greatly appreciated:
  1. Standing mirror
  2. Duvet cover with monogram
  3. Wall decorations (frames, art, etc.)

I guess I should put up some pictures of the apartment to help everyone visualize...I will try to remember!

*Sorry it didn't turn out so brief!

Happy Halloween!

Well there aren't that many days at work that I am so busy I hardly have time to read blogs or post my own. Tuesday was one of those days. Although I love reading and writing blogs, I would rather be busy at work and save the blog world for home (and quick breaks at the office). I feel bad wasting the company's money blogging all day, but if they don't give me work what am I supposed to do? Oh well. Most of the other internships I have heard about are similar to mine, so I'm not too concerned.

Anyways, I'm going back to Alabama to see Dru today! I'm leaving work at noon to catch a flight and go with him to his company's party tonight. I'm so nervous! I will be the youngest person there by a good 5-10 years, but hopefully that will work in my favor. Dru and I are going as John McCain and Sarah Palin. He picked our costumes because he is a southern boy who is, naturally, in love with John McCain. It also helps that I have some glasses similar to Sarah Palin's, and can pull her look off with relative ease. Hopefully I will get to take some good pictures and have good stories to report back.

Speaking of pictures, I have been debating on whether or not I should put some up. I read blogs of people who won't put up any pictures, some who will but block out faces and others who show everything. I realize putting up pictures will make me a bit more vulnerable to the bad internet creeps. However, I want the people who I feel know me through my blog to be able to put a face to the name and writing. What do you think? Has anyone you know ever had a bad experience with putting their picture on their blog?

Happy Halloween everyone! Be safe and eat a lot of candy!

Help?

I'm trying to install Google Analytics for my blog. I'm stuck on the first step. It gives me an HTML code to paste right before the body tag. I found this tag at the bottom of my HTML page and posted the code they gave me. It is still saying that tracking is not installed. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a secret to this madness?

MeMe & Other Stuff

Wow. I just realized how bad I am at creating titles for my blog posts. I don't know what the deal is but I just haven't been that creative lately. For instance, my mom's 51st birthday was last week. I have been meaning to make a scrapbook for her since her last birthday. I finally got around to it the day of her birthday dinner this year. It didn't turn out so great. I have to say I am the most creative in our family of 4 (I can't include my dad's side of the family here because they are all geniuses in the creativity department). But when I sat down to do the scrapbook I had all kinds of great things going through my head. When the scrapbook was finished? It was plain and could have been put together by my 1 year old cousin. I was disappointed, but my mom appreciated it anyways.

My lack of creativity is seeping into other aspects of my life as well. I can't come up with a good design for carving a pumpkin. While I was in Alabama Dru and I discusses carving pumpkins. In an effort to show him who I am I offered up the information that I am pretty creative and like to draw, etc. He was psyched because, obviously, he isn't artistic in the least bit. We didn't wind up carving pumpkins, but I thought it would be nice of me to sketch out a face and send it to him for him to carve. But I can't come up with a good one! A coworker showed me a great little application on my iPhone that mixes and matches eyes/nose/mouth for pumpkin faces and I got my idea from there. I am ashamed! Oh well...

Speaking of Dru, we spoke on the phone last night, only for a short while, but it was good to hear from him none the less. He mentioned that he will be incredibly busy at work for the next couple of months, which stinks because I don't know if it will cut into our time together.

Anyways, here is a meme I'm stealing from Dana at Just Talk. The rules are that you have to answer each question with one word (notice how I have finagled a few):

1. Where is your cell phone? Lap
2. Where is your significant other? Alabama?
3. Your hair color? Dirty-blonde
4. Your mother? Work
5. Your father? Home
6. Your favorite thing? Shopping
7. Your dream last night? Dru
8. Your dream/goal? Family
9. The room you're in? Cubicle
10. Your hobby? Decorating
11. Your fear? Rape
12. Where do you want to be in six years? Married
13. Where were you last night? Couch
14. What you’re not? Self-confident
15. What do you wish you had? RangeRover
16. Where you grew up? NorthCarolina
17. The last thing you did? iPhone-Applications
18. What are you wearing? Suit
19. Your TV? Samsung
20. Your pet? Roscoe
21. Your computer? Mac
22. Your mood? Anxious
23. Missing someone? Dru
24. Your car? 4-Runner
25. Something you’re not wearing? PJ's
26. Favorite store? Nordstrom
27. Your summer? Work
28. Love someone? Soon
29. Your favorite color? Pink
30. When is the last time you laughed? Today
31. Last time you cried? Yesterday

I hope everyone enjoys this meme! I'm leaving work early today to tailgate for the football game tonight which is televised nationally! I would suggest you watch and cheer for the NC State Wolfpack, but we haven't been doing that great lately so we might not win. But if you do happen to come across it...look for me! I'll be wearing red :)

Blogger Advice?

Hi everyone! I hope all is well in the blog-world. I really don't like getting used to blogging only a couple of times a week. But it is what it is, right? There haven't been many developments in my real life this week. A few with Dru though...

Last week he texted me to see when I would want to come to his hometown for a visit! I was totally excited, but not looking forward to the 9 hour drive or $400 plane ticket. I told him this, and I'm almost 100% positive he will be getting me a plane ticket! WTF!? Gary, the ex, hardly even paid when we went on dates. I have never had anyone pay for my things and now THIS! I'm so overwhelmed that I don't even know if I can accept such a thing.

I finally got to talk on the phone with Dru for quite a while last night and that was fun. I'm pretty sure he thinks I'm stupid though - like a dumb blonde. This is mostly due to the fact that I had no idea what I was doing in Columbia, and probably came off as an idiot. I realize that I have my shining blonde moments, but I happen to have a 3.8 GPA and consider myself pretty smart. I told Dru that I work in the investment banking field but was studying marketing. He got a kick out of this and told me they probably hired me because of my looks! I was actually quite offended and tried to defend myself, but his phone was acting weird and I don't think I properly got the point across.

Anyways, we had discussed me coming to visit this weekend, but there is a big game the next weekend that he thinks will be more fun. People, if this actually does happen, I'm going to be a mess in the days before. I am already nervous, and it's not even final that I'm going. I'm nervous about meeting his friends, spending so much time with him and just being out of my element. And the thing is: I don't really even know him! The two times we have hung out we have been drunk for the most part. I know he is a safe, respectable guy through other people (long story), so I'm not worried about that, but it's just so not like me to jet off to hang out with some dude I hardly know!

These days I'm all about 'living on the edge', as corny as it sounds. But I want to live my young life to the fullest and not have regrets. That is why, if he offers a plane ticket, I will accept. I am pulling myself out of my comfort zone and into new situations to force personal growth. If things don't go great, I will come home and get on with my life. If things go great, who knows, I might just be looking for a job further south come May. Haha!

As for Ed, he is coming the last weekend of September and I have agreed to let him stay at our place. And I also agreed to take him down to Wilmington (2 hour drive) for his flight home. Here is the hard part: I'm not really that interested in him anymore. I have a terrible problem of dropping anything, not thinking of who I might hurt in the process, for the next best thing.

I'm hoping that Ed has realized that things aren't going to go any further mainly due to the long distance between us. Also, we never really discussed what happened with us, so I don't feel like there is any formal commitment. So, technically, I'm out of the woods. But emotionally, I don't know where he is at.

I'm not really looking forward to him staying at our place anymore, I actually really don't want him there, but I don't think I can un-invite him. His visit might shape up to be the most awkward of all time. I'm going to wait on telling Ed anything definite after I see what happens with Dru.

Here is my ideal situation:

Dru flies me down to his hometown, we have a great time. Maybe even make plans for another visit.
When Ed comes, I have a legit reason to ask him to stay elsewhere. Explaining to him about Dru, and then everything is out in the open.

With my luck though, none of that will come true. If anyone has comments/suggestions I would love to hear them!

I'm Backkkk

OK I'm back, technically - but won't be blogging regularly until next week. I had an amazing trip (as expected) and will fill you in completely. I started school yesterday too, and I have a great concert to go to this weekend.

Catching up on the 150+ blog posts to read, work and school is really daunting right now. So, forgive me for being slow to get back to the blog writing.

Bear with me. I promise stories are to come...maybe even tomorrow seeing as I don't have afternoon classes or work. Yay! Weekend!

Firsts

I read a blog where the author listed 'firsts'. Seeing as this would be a great way to jog my memory and really look back into who I was/am, I am dedicating this post to my firsts. Recalling things, especially on the spot, is tough for me so I'm betting this will take me quite some time. I want it to be as creative as possible, but we'll have to see.

I first walked at 7 months old.
My first real kiss was in the back of a movie theater (I can't remember what movie it was).
My first break-up was the cause of my first real teenage girl fight (not physical, people).
My first trip out of the country was to the Bahamas.
The first time I moved was when I was 6 months old.
My first true love was a relationship that lasted 5 years (Gary).
My first car was a Toyota 4-Runner.
My first pet was an evil cat named Lucy until we discovered it was a boy and then started calling him Lucas.
This was my first cell phone (with a pink flamingo cover):

The first time I went to a strip club was this past weekend.
The first time I got my heart broken was at the age of 16 (Gary...but I returned the favor).
The first time I had sushi was at the Marriott in Times Square my junior year in high school.
I met my first best friend in kindergarten (I came home the first day and apparently told my mom I had found someone small like me).
The first time I had an oyster was less than a year ago (and I didn't like it).
I still sleep with my first blanket (don't worry - it has been washed).
My first job was as a runner for a law firm (Pat's dad's law firm actually).
My first experience with death was that of a close friend in high school.
My first credit card had the emblem of my favorite college basketball team on it.
Annnddd I'm out.

Oh, and PS - my city has decided to launch another 'against drunk driving' campaign. Every year they do this, my question is - when did you stop looking out for drunk drivers? But the PoPo got clever this year...they launched it on 8.8.08 because the legal limit is 0.08. Clever. They must have been really slow this year...
